Hotel Review: Le Monet Baguio

When I went to Baguio last November I wanted to stay inside Camp John Hay. However the room rates at The Manor was a little bit out of my league. So instead, we stayed at Le Monet which was in the same area but more affordable.

I availed of the Mastercard promo and was able to book directly on their website for P5350 for 2 with buffet breakfast. I figured I'll just sneak in my sister :)

The Room

The hotel has 70 rooms and the one we got was a Deluxe Twin Room with a park view on the 5th floor.

2 double bed
There was 2 double bed which was good for 4 people. I like that they have 4 pillows for each bed which were a bit flat but good enough. The linens were clean and smelled good.

Too bad they didn't have any reading lights.

no air-con but there is a ceiling fan
All rooms had no air-con but we didn't need one anyway. We just opened the balcony door and the breeze from the fifth floor during the night was enough and during the day we had the ceiling fan. The only drawback to having the balcony door open is that you can hear the cars passing by or even your neighbor. Thankfully for us (and unlucky for them) I think we were the noisiest at our floor.

small table

coffee, water and tea
Each room has a balcony and I think its perfect. We were able to use it during the night when we just wanted to drink and hang out and in the morning pag muni-muni :)

we had the room at the front of the hotel

you can hear cars going by even at night
DVD player - too bad we didn't have any DVD or USB with us
When we checked in the TV cable for the entire hotel wasn't working. They were only able to have this fixed the next morning which I think sucked. They didn't even have any complimentary drinks or snacks to make up for this.

Breakfast

Part of the package was breakfast and countless of websites/blogs have indicated that the breakfast at Le Monet was one of the best. Since the package we have was good for only 2 breakfast, I opted to pay for the extra person P550.

usual filipino staples

fresh fruits
To be honest, the buffet breakfast was good but not that spectacular. They had plenty of dishes and all of them were good but I think so do other hotels. The thing that stood out for me is 1. the Eggs Benedict and 2. willingness of the staff to accommodate special requests.

super love
Okay, I have to give special mention to the Eggs Benedict because I really love them. They do not serve them at the buffet but you can ask them to make it for you. You just have to wait for it, though. They serve it on pandesal, with bacon, asparagus and perfectly cooked poached eggs. The sauce on top was just runny enough and they even put in a side of fried potatoes. Yummy! I requested for this also the following day.

On the following day, I asked for banana waffles with chocolate bits and this is what I got:

They incorporated the chocolate in the waffle (that is why it took so long to serve) and no banana in the waffle or on top. Oh well, at least they tried :)

Tip: Get breakfast early or late since there are limited seating. They serve breakfast at the lobby and by 7-730pm, you have to wait a bit to get seating. There is 1-2 tables outside that would be nice to use but it's usually occupied by the early risers.

Location:

It is located inside Camp John Hay so there are plenty of trees and you really feel the vibe of Baguio. Beside the hotel are a few small shops (Shakeys, a bakery,  Japanese take-out and wine/deli).  Going up a few meters (about 10 minute slow walk) is the Manor and the Mile-Hi complex with some restaurants and outlet stores. Down the road is the Ayala Technohub with more restaurants.

There are plenty of taxis going by so we didn't have any problem with transportation.

The hotel is far enough from the city center that you really get to relax but near enough that it is just a short 5-10 minute taxi ride away from Session road.

Final Verdict

The rate is reasonable for the place and location. The service could be faster but the willingness of the staff to serve makes up for it. The noise from outside caused by cars going by can be a little bit irritating (and we were already on the top floor!) but you can ask for the room at the back. Overall, very nice stay and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

  1. Did you pay for the extra person staying in your room?

    1. Nope. We just didn't register the extra person. I think the hotel doesn't mind but because we used the Mastercard promo, I had to register only 2.
